about university

What made your university special? What were the facilities where you studied and the university equipment like?
One of the world's leading research institutions with the focus on memory preservation.

Enabled me to learn about databases and the function of online archives. I was mostly involved in the interview coding and testing. Centropa is well-equipped with the top technological equipment, while its staff is highly professional and motivated.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about your "adoptive" university? What made it special? What were the premises where you studied and the university facilities like?
Each intern gets his/her specific tasks. Often times the division of tasks is based on the specific interests of individual interns, their language capabilities as well as overall skillset.

Working with Centropa team was a pure joy and I would definitely recommend them to any prospective trainees or interns.
What is student life like at university?
Internship
Did you study in English or in the language of the host country? What language requirements does the university have?
We communicated both in English and in German.

about the city

What was your impression of the city? How would you describe it? What is interesting to see here?
Vienna is one of the most beautiful European capitals, ranking within top 10 most livable cities. The amount of greenery and the proportion of historical artifacts is astonishing.

about finances

In your experience, how far does the scholarship go? What percentage of your expenses did it cover? What is your opinion on prices in the country in general?
The financial help is sufficient to cover living costs, however, not enough for the living expenses, e.g. would not cover the rent.
Please advise your classmates on how to save money—Where to shop? What services can be used to save money?
Students have a number of opportunities how to save costs.

My immediate tips are: use ISIC whenever possible, If you're under 25, most of the cultural establishments would give you a discount,

But yearly transport ticket to save costs. Use TooGoodToGo application: be ecological and save at the same time.

about accommodation

What type of accommodation did you choose? Would you recommend it to others? If not, what type of accommodation do you think is best based on your experience (dormitory, private apartment, private dormitory, shared room, etc.)?
I managed to rent a flat, however, would mostly cover the rent from my savings. Flatashare is also a popular option. For students coming for an exchange year, a dorm could also be a possibility.

about experiences

Did you use Erasmus stay to travel around your country/Europe? What are your best travel experiences? What would you not recommend?
Travelling by train is both fast and affordable in Austria. Some of the most beautiful attractions are easily reachable from the city, including Lower Alps.
Language and culture: what cultural differences did you notice? How did you cope with the national language? Was it also the language of your studies? Do you feel that your language skills improved during your stay?
I certainly improved my German during these pasts month in Vienna.

final rating

Why here? What makes this location special? Why would you send your friends to your country/city?
Centropa is great for anyone focusing on historical research, so is Vienna.

live-saving tips

If I went again, I would definitely remember to pack...
Headsets.
king charles-03_edited_edited.png
Before leaving, I would like to know that...
That it was rather easy to communicate in English wherever you go.
What surprised me most was that...
Most of the Austrian culinary specialties are also popular in the Czech Republic, including Linecke pecivo.

The hardest thing for me was...
Strict COVID-19 restrictions.
