about university
What made your university special? What were the facilities where you studied and the university equipment like?
Great working environment, kind and understanding supervisors, good location of the office.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about your "adoptive" university? What made it special? What were the premises where you studied and the university facilities like?
Interns help and support IPC Members in their research. The representatives were kind and understanding. It was overall a very good organisation and I would recommend it to future students.
What is student life like at university?
Did you study in English or in the language of the host country? What language requirements does the university have?
I communicated in English, everyone was fluent in this language.

about the city
What was your impression of the city? How would you describe it? What is interesting to see here?
It was a cosmopolitan and busy city, with lots of history and places to discover. My favourite area was Moda, in the district of Kadiköy. The city has great views no matter where you stand but can get stressful at times if you are not used to very busy places.
about finances
In your experience, how far does the scholarship go? What percentage of your expenses did it cover? What is your opinion on prices in the country in general?
It was easy to get by with the scholarship and a small amount of money I had saved previously. The inflation was rising very quickly but the change of currency did not make it difficult to get by.
Please advise your classmates on how to save money—Where to shop? What services can be used to save money?
Eating at home or at "lokanta" (home-cooked places) rather than restaurants and avoid the city centre for groceries or shopping.

about accommodation
What type of accommodation did you choose? Would you recommend it to others? If not, what type of accommodation do you think is best based on your experience (dormitory, private apartment, private dormitory, shared room, etc.)?
I stayed in a private room in a shared apartment. I would recommend it as a way to meet new people but not be stressed in a busy dormitory shared with many other interns.
about experiences
Did you use Erasmus stay to travel around your country/Europe? What are your best travel experiences? What would you not recommend?
I traveled to a couple of cities around Turkey (Pamukkale and Antalya) and I would recommend both places.
Language and culture: what cultural differences did you notice? How did you cope with the national language? Was it also the language of your studies? Do you feel that your language skills improved during your stay?
There were plenty of cultural differences, but it was easy to adapt as people were very welcoming. I did not speak any Turkish but I used Duolingo and asked friends for help and I ended up learning a couple of words and sentences.
final rating
Why here? What makes this location special? Why would you send your friends to your country/city?
Istanbul is an amazing city with lots of history, great food places and very welcoming people. I would recommend it, but it might not be for everyone because it is very busy and crowded. It was a great opportunity to get to know the city, because it is impossible to see it in only a week or two.
live-saving tips
If I went again, I would definitely remember to pack...
An umbrella and coats. Some months were colder and rainier than I imagined.

Before leaving, I would like to know that...
Not that many people speak English in the street. Learning a bit of Turkish in advance would be very helpful.
What surprised me most was that...
How safe I felt. I was worried as a woman I might feel scared but on the contrary, I felt extremely safe even at night.

The hardest thing for me was...
How big the city is. In order to do any activity you need to plan ahead, as it might take more than an hour to get where you have to go.
