about university
What made your university special? What were the facilities where you studied and the university equipment like?
The University of Zurich is a prestigious university and one of the top universities worldwide. I enjoyed working with a highly motivated, creative, and productive team. I was provided with a table in an office with all the technical equipment and support I needed.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about your "adoptive" university? What made it special? What were the premises where you studied and the university facilities like?
I definitely recommend coming to UZH and working with the Social Geography and Urban Studies team. They are very open to visiting students and supportive. I was treated as any other member of the team.
What is student life like at university?
There are various student associations and support groups. There are German language courses, for example, which I took and recommend. There are many leisure activities organized by the university and the department.
Did you study in English or in the language of the host country? What language requirements does the university have?
In English. It depends on the study level. For a PhD candidate, a high level of English is required.

about the city
What was your impression of the city? How would you describe it? What is interesting to see here?
Cosmopolitan and safe city but quite expensive. Around the lake is beautiful.
about finances
In your experience, how far does the scholarship go? What percentage of your expenses did it cover? What is your opinion on prices in the country in general?
Unfortunately, the scholarship could not even cover half of my expenses, so I had to apply for other funds, too (SVV, Mobility Fund, etc.).
Please advise your classmates on how to save money—Where to shop? What services can be used to save money?
Walk and cycle more, and eat more home-cooked meals.

about accommodation
What type of accommodation did you choose? Would you recommend it to others? If not, what type of accommodation do you think is best based on your experience (dormitory, private apartment, private dormitory, shared room, etc.)?
I lived in a shared accommodation outside of Zurich (close to Baden).
about experiences
Did you use Erasmus stay to travel around your country/Europe? What are your best travel experiences? What would you not recommend?
Public transportation in Switzerland is probably the best in Europe, but it's also quite expensive. If you stay longer, it makes sense to buy the half-fare ticket.
Language and culture: what cultural differences did you notice? How did you cope with the national language? Was it also the language of your studies? Do you feel that your language skills improved during your stay?
You can get by with English perfectly well if you don't speak German.
final rating
Why here? What makes this location special? Why would you send your friends to your country/city?
UZH is a highly prestigious university; you don't need more than that if you care about your academic career (I am a PhD candidate and want to pursue an academic career).
live-saving tips
If I went again, I would definitely remember to pack...

Before leaving, I would like to know that...
Exhaust all financial support opportunities, because finances are rarely enough.
What surprised me most was that...
Again, prices :-)

The hardest thing for me was...
Prices.
