about university

What made your university special? What were the facilities where you studied and the university equipment like?
Welcoming, helpful and friendly. My traineeship was outstanding due to the kindness and well-understanding of my supervisor and the whole lab team. The premises are equipped with what was needed to fulfilling my internship. I discovered they have incredible Mass Spectrometry facilities and state-of-the-art equipments, allowing me to thrive in my field.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about your "adoptive" university? What made it special? What were the premises where you studied and the university facilities like?
As a traineeship intern I was treated and registered as any other doctoral candidate, giving me the same rights and access. The University of Granada's International office approached me always in a very friendly manner, always helpful and willing to solve my inquiries. Definitely, I highly recommend this Institution to any incoming student.
What is student life like at university?
not applicable
Did you study in English or in the language of the host country? What language requirements does the university have?
I communicate in the language of the host country (Spanish). They're always glad to have international students willing to learn/practice the local language, though they can have english communication.

about the city

What was your impression of the city? How would you describe it? What is interesting to see here?
In general, it is a peaceful city. Granada is well adapted for the student life and it has losts of things to do; from cultural events to night life. While Granada is not right in the coast, at just 30-45 minutes from the center you can easily arrive to the beach. The Alhambra is the jewel of the crown, one of the most visited places in Spain and a wonder to see.

about finances

In your experience, how far does the scholarship go? What percentage of your expenses did it cover? What is your opinion on prices in the country in general?
In my experience, the scholarship helped me greatly to cover my expenses in Spain, mostly the accommodation, transportation and food. The prices in Granda are very much affordable for a student life.
Please advise your classmates on how to save money—Where to shop? What services can be used to save money?
The best way to save money is to walk to the university rather than use transportation, there's always a good weather to do so. Food supplies can be easily obtained in the market chain Mercadona, which offers the cheapest prices of Spain.

about accommodation

What type of accommodation did you choose? Would you recommend it to others? If not, what type of accommodation do you think is best based on your experience (dormitory, private apartment, private dormitory, shared room, etc.)?
I got my accommodation using a local (Spanish) app called IDEALISTA. That's the most common app that students, trainees or travelers use in Spain to seek cheap accommodation for long term (more than 2 months).

about experiences

Did you use Erasmus stay to travel around your country/Europe? What are your best travel experiences? What would you not recommend?
Granada is a small city with a lots of good views, I dare to say that transportation is not worthy unless you're going far away, otherwise walking is the best option. If you need to use the public transportation for more than a week, you rather get the "green card" for the public transportation. Therefore, every ticket is way cheaper.
Language and culture: what cultural differences did you notice? How did you cope with the national language? Was it also the language of your studies? Do you feel that your language skills improved during your stay?
The local language is my native language, so I didn't have any issues related to that matter. However, it's well known that in Spain not everybody speaks english but everybody is willing to help.

final rating

Why here? What makes this location special? Why would you send your friends to your country/city?
The local people and the people at the university are always welcoming to new students and trainees. Apart from the life at the university, spanish people are always friendly and willing to do social life, if that's your vibe.

live-saving tips

If I went again, I would definitely remember to pack...
not to pack, but to ask for an accommodation with A/C for the summer. many days or even weeks, the temperatures rose the 40 ºC.

Before leaving, I would like to know that...
The beach is nearby and really easy to reach.
What surprised me most was that...
The size of the tapas! I've never been in any other city in spain where just by asking for a Coca-Cola they give a big "snack".

The hardest thing for me was...
To understand (orally) the people, sometimes they speak so fast that I didn't get what they meant.
