o univerzitě

Čím byla tvá univerzita výjimečná? Jak vypadaly prostory ve kterých jsi studoval(a) a univerzitní vybavení?
The LMU is one of the biggest universities in Germany. The medical faculties has a great reputation is ranked as one of the best medical universities in Germany. Since the teaching hospital in Großhadern is a centrum for different specialities it offers the opportunity to see a lot of rare diseases. I also really enjoyed the seminars and tutoring sections, which were really interactive. Going through a lot of different case studies together, I learned a lot. Further, I really appreciated the extracurricular offers reaching from ECG practices to ultrasound, blood withdrawing etc.
Co tě první napadne, když pomyslíš na svou "adoptivní" univerzitu. Čím byla výjimečná? Jak vypadaly prostory ve kterých jsi studoval(a) a univerzitní vybavení?
Study concepts were a lot more interactive than at our faculty. The seminars were mostly about discussing case studies together and about interconnecting different diseases and learning about a general structure how you approach patients. We learned a lot about diagnostic algorithms and therapy, too. There was also a concept called "problem based learning", were we also discussed case studies in small groups while the teacher was only supervising by acting more like a moderator instead of teaching. I think it was really nice starting to apply our knowledge on real cases.
I also really like the online offer via moodle, a lot of recordings, presentations and online learning options can be found threre.
Jak vypadá studentský život na univerzitě?
Most of the courses were either taking place in the big hospital "Großhadern" or the second campus hospital in the city center. Both places are not really connected to the LMU main campus, the medical faculty is more exclusive to its students. There were a lot of courses offered for practical clincial training as electives. From the non-medical point of view, there has been activities organised by the faculty too, like for example a skiing trip.
Further, the student organisation offered a lot of events, there was for example a cinema night every week or even lectures they organized themselves.
Studoval(a) jsi v angličtině, nebo v jazyce hostitelské země? Jaké požadavky jsou v oblasti jazyka kladeny univerzitou?
Since I speak German very well, I mostly communicated in German. Therefore, I mostly joined courses in German but I know there were a lot of offers for english-speaking students, also electives held in english. There has been internships offered for english-speaking students, too.

o městě

Jak na tebe město působilo? Jak byste jej charakterizoval/a? Co je zde zajímavého k vidění?
The city is great for students. Although Munich is a more expensive city in general, there is a great public transport concept in place now, offering student tickets for 29€ a month. This was especially important since you have to switch a lot between the different hospitals for your practices, seminars etc.
Further, Munich is a very international and vivid city, you find a lot of cafes, restaurants and bar there, but also theatres, concerts and other cultural offers. The LMU offers special offers for students, which enable them to go to theatre or even the opera for 10€.
The best part about Munich in my perspective is the nature though, the mountains are very close for skiing in the summer or hiking in the winter. There are a lot of different lakes, which are stunning, you are allowed to swim in every lake and they can be reached with public transport with your 29€ ticket. In the city itself you can find the Isar, which is a central river, I really enjoyed running there.
I also enjoyed travelling to other cities in Bavaria, Regensburg and Passau are great cities for a day trip (also with the 29€ ticket ;)).
During the winter time, you find all the Christmas markets, which are great, my favourite one was the Pink Christmas market in the Glockenback area.

o financích

Jak lze podle Tvojí zkušenosti vyjít se stipendiem? Kolik procent výdajů Vám pokrylo? Jaký je Váš názor na ceny v zemi obecně?
Munich is a rather expensive city, the scholarship covered the rent but additional money is generally required for costs of living.
I have spend most extra money on going-out when I decided not to cook at home. Although the cafeteria in the hospitals were rather cheap, restaurants and bars in Munich are quite expensive.
Poraď prosím spolužákům, jak ušetřit - Kde nakupovat? Jaké služby lze v rámci úspory financí využívat?
Money can be saved by cooking a home and bringing your own coffee, meal etc to the classes, especially if you have a long day of practices. Or buying lunch at the hospital cafeteria, where other employees also eat. There is also a nice salad bar and it was cheap to get a nice and healthy salad there.
You can also save money by grocery shopping in the cheaper supermarkets, for example ALDI, LIDL or NETTO, this can really help a lot.

o ubytování

Jaké ubytování sis zvolil(a)? Doporučil(a) bys jej ostatním? A pokud ne, jaká varianta ubytování je podle Tvých zkušeností nejlepší (kolej, ubytování v soukromém bytě, soukromá kolej, sdílený pokoj a podobně...)?
I was lucky since I had the opportunity to organise accommodation privately. I moved in with a friend from home who happened to have a spare room in his apartment while his roommate was gone for Erasmus.
But I heard, the dormitorie were quite good, so for other students I would recommend shared flats with other Erasmus students or the dormitory because you are more in touch with different people who look for social contacts, too. By living with me friend, I was mostly seeing his group of friends outside of the people I met via university.

o zážitcích

Využil(a) jsi Erasmu k cestování po tvé zemi/Evropě? Jaké jsou tvoje nejlepší cestovatelské zážitky? Co naopak nedoporučuješ?
Public transport is surely the best and. cheapest way to travel in Munich but also in Bavaria. With the student public transport ticket for 29€ you can use all public transport including local trains called "Regionalbahn".
Besides the strikes of the personell happening time to time, the public transport is quite reliable. Further, I would recommend to use the public bikes you can find around the whole city, which you can rent very cheap via the "mvg"-app (Munich public transport app). You can also rent them on a monthly basis and I think especially for the summer it is the fastest way of traveling.
Jazyk a kultura: jakých kulturních odlišností jste si všiml/a? Jak jste se vypořádával/a s národním jazykem? Byl to i jazyk vašeho studia? Máte pocit, že jste se v jazyce díky pobytu posunul/a?
Since I speak German very well, I mostly communicated in German. Therefore, I mostly joined courses in German but I know there were a lot of offers for english-speaking students, also electives held in english. There has been internships offered for english-speaking students, too.

závěrečné hodnocení

Proč právě sem?  V čem je lokalita výjimečná? Proč bys své kamarády do své země/ města poslal/a ty?
Munich is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever been to when it comes to nature and outside activities no matter if its winter or summer time.
Right in the center you can find a big park, where people swim and even surf during the summer.
Since Munich is connected very well to the rest of Bavaria, you can visit a lot of other places by public transport.
Regarding medicine, the hospitals were great, the teaching staff was very competent and I learned a lot so I can surely recommend a study stay.

live-saving tips

Kdybych jel(a) znovu, určitě bych si nezapomněl(a) zabalit..
waterproof shoes for hiking.

Před odjezdem bych býval(a) rád(a) věděl(a), že...
there are coordinators for the courses who are dealing with Erasmus students outside of the international office.
Nejvíc mě překvapilo, že...
how fast I got included into the german study courses and felt like being an actual part of the study community.

Nejtěžší pro mě bylo....
to organise the acknowledgement of my exams from abroad here at my faculty.
