about university

What made your university special? What were the facilities where you studied and the university equipment like?
The university in Saarland was quite small, so the milieu was very friendly and helpful to me.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about your "adoptive" university? What made it special? What were the premises where you studied and the university facilities like?
Beginning of semester was ca 3 weeks later compare to Charles University. The lessons were theoretical but the students have more weeks of praxis in summer.
There were mainly written exams and resits were usually in the end of next semester.
What is student life like at university?
The university disposed of new lecture rooms located in teaching hospital. As I already mentioned, I did not have any practical lessons so I cannot compare the equipment and way of practical education.
There is a student association that arranges parties, social events etc.
There were no elective subject that introduce the culture of the host country but there were possibilities to attend to german courses but the number of students was limited and most of them took place in Saarbrücken (my university was located in Hombrug).
Did you study in English or in the language of the host country? What language requirements does the university have?
The commnication was mainly in german and all subjects were in german too.

about the city

What was your impression of the city? How would you describe it? What is interesting to see here?
The city was quite small and there were not many things to do, so I spent more time in Saarbrücken, where the Saarland University was located and what was more student-oriented.

about finances

In your experience, how far does the scholarship go? What percentage of your expenses did it cover? What is your opinion on prices in the country in general?
The scholarship covered almost cost of accomodation. But because of comming 2 weeks later to Germany (my scholarship was rightful from 1st October, I came 12th October because the semester began in the end of October) I had to pay back 1 month of scholarship, that I find quite silly
Please advise your classmates on how to save money—Where to shop? What services can be used to save money?
Living in dormitory is the cheapest way. University canteen was the cheap way to get the lunch. I would also recommend students to cook by themselves un order to save money.

about accommodation

What type of accommodation did you choose? Would you recommend it to others? If not, what type of accommodation do you think is best based on your experience (dormitory, private apartment, private dormitory, shared room, etc.)?
I lived in dormitory that was clean, very well equipped with furniture (but there were no duvet and pillows). The kitchen was well furnitured too. There were collective bathrooms - 1 for girls and 1 for boys on each floor but I did not mind.

about experiences

Did you use Erasmus stay to travel around your country/Europe? What are your best travel experiences? What would you not recommend?
As a student of Saarland university I could travel around the Saarland and Luxembourg for free.
Language and culture: what cultural differences did you notice? How did you cope with the national language? Was it also the language of your studies? Do you feel that your language skills improved during your stay?
I did not notice any particular cultural differences.
Language - I did not struggle with problems connected to medical terminology but it was sometimes problematic for me to hold a conversation about daily topics.

final rating

Why here? What makes this location special? Why would you send your friends to your country/city?
Saarland is located near France and Luxembourg so it was easy to travel abroad.

live-saving tips

If I went again, I would definitely remember to pack...
umbrella - it rained there almost every week

Before leaving, I would like to know that...
it will be hard in the beginning but it will be easier day by day and every problem has a solution
What surprised me most was that...
people - they were nicer and more friendly than I expected

The hardest thing for me was...
to find out all information about documents that were required
