about university

What made your university special? What were the facilities where you studied and the university equipment like?
The campus of Faculty Science is modern at the outskirt of Krakow, well reachable by public transport. There are also a lot of bistros and other shops arround.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about your "adoptive" university? What made it special? What were the premises where you studied and the university facilities like?
The approach to students is quite similar as in our faculty (Faculty of Science, CHU), maybe slighlty more formal.
What is student life like at university?
There are some student clubs but I did not have opportunity to visit them because of lack of time and/or COVID period. They offer some social events for Erasmus students and Polish languge courses.
Did you study in English or in the language of the host country? What language requirements does the university have?
In English. No formal requirements.

about the city

What was your impression of the city? How would you describe it? What is interesting to see here?
Krakow is nice historical and green city quite close to the Beskydy or Tatra mountains with lot of students. However, it suffers from significant air pollution especialy in winter time and traffic jams.

about finances

In your experience, how far does the scholarship go? What percentage of your expenses did it cover? What is your opinion on prices in the country in general?
My scholarship was about 650 EUR which sufficiently covered my costs of living. The prices in Poland are generally slighlty lower than in Czechia. I still saved around 20 % of the scholarship.
Please advise your classmates on how to save money—Where to shop? What services can be used to save money?
Better to be accomodated in dormitory as rents are quite high (given the scholarship). I have travelled everywhere by bike as there are lot of biking path and stands.

about accommodation

What type of accommodation did you choose? Would you recommend it to others? If not, what type of accommodation do you think is best based on your experience (dormitory, private apartment, private dormitory, shared room, etc.)?
Living in dormitory is definitively the cheapest option. International students of Jagellonian University live mostly in Bydgoska dormitory which has been recently renovated and I can recommend it. Finding a private flat or shared room is definitively more expensive way. However, Science campus is located at the outskirt of Krakow where there are a lot of modern blocks of flats with lower rent than in the downtown.

about experiences

Did you use Erasmus stay to travel around your country/Europe? What are your best travel experiences? What would you not recommend?
Yes, the Northern Poland, around Gdansk or the district around Mazurian´s like is realy worth to visit.
Language and culture: what cultural differences did you notice? How did you cope with the national language? Was it also the language of your studies? Do you feel that your language skills improved during your stay?
I was mostly staying in only in academia environment which is mostly very much similar as in our country. What what was the most appereant was much stronger influence of church in normal day life. Polish is quite similar to Czech and so I did not have much troubles with understanding in everyday situation and at the university I used English.

final rating

Why here? What makes this location special? Why would you send your friends to your country/city?
I came here for the internship because of our collobartor. However, Krakow is quite nice place to study not far from the nature or Czech borders.

Before leaving, I would like to know that...
What surprised me most was that...

The hardest thing for me was...
The Polish bureaucracy and the needs to take care about deadline on our and Polish site and to urge people multiple times.
