about university | organisation
What made your university special? What were the facilities where you studied and the university equipment like?
The university campus is situated a bit outside the city center but easily reachable. The whole area is pretty modern as well as the campus which is provided with modern classrooms, all gender facilities, study rooms with modern equipment, a canteen with all diet options and a space where students can enjoy their free time either in the gym or in the relax room. Everything is accessible with your student card and you can also download the university app that you can use to check where the classrooms are located.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about your "adoptive" university? What made it special? What were the premises where you studied and the university facilities like?
The whole system in Aalborg university is totally different from what we are used to. We had a full month of extensive lectures, where we studied three different courses and then we had some weeks to prepare for the exam. In the meantime we were also divided into study groups where we were discussing what we were studying and what we were struggling with. At this point we were done with classes and we started working on a group project, which is one of the main aspect of this system called PBL – problem based learning, made so students work in groups and apply problem oriented methods. This system also allows you to do fieldwork, depending on the topic of your project, you can travel and get first hand information of what is going on. As for the teachers, they are always available to help as well as for the administration.
What is student life like at university?
From my experience, I can say that in this university there are not many student societies as the main campus is located in Aalborg. Although, students can attend elective courses to learn the language and they always try to organize activities. There is also a Friday bar that is a place where students can delve into the Danish culture and make new friends. I would say that if you want to be more involved in the student life, you should definitely get in the ESN group as they always organize activities.
Did you study in English or in the language of the host country? What language requirements does the university have?
Everything is in English and everybody in the city speaks English, I would say a B2 level would be sufficient.
about the city
What was your impression of the city? How would you describe it? What is interesting to see here?
Copenhagen is not a very big city so you can just walk around and enjoy its architecture and lovely parks. I recommend visting the center, in particular walking along the canals where you find nice cafes but also more remote areas like where the beach is, especially during the warm season when it’s just beautiful and full of people. I also think the city is situated in a strategic position as you can easily travel to neighboring countries.
about finances
In your experience, how far does the scholarship go? What percentage of your expenses did it cover? What is your opinion on prices in the country in general?
Unfortunately, Copenhagen is a pretty expensive city and I could only cover my accommodation with the scholarship while I was using my savings for the grocery and other activities. If you want to enjoy your time there, you have to expect high prices.
Please advise your classmates on how to save money—Where to shop? What services can be used to save money?
I would say you could save some money using a bike to move around the city instead of public transportation which is a bit expensive. Netto and rema are two supermarkets where you can find cheap food, or you can also eat at the canteen in the campus. Another tip would be to find a part time job, as you will have plenty of free time given the university system and also that could help to cover your expenses and allow you to enjoy some time out with your friends.
about accommodation
What type of accommodation did you choose? Would you recommend it to others? If not, what type of accommodation do you think is best based on your experience (dormitory, private apartment, private dormitory, shared room, etc.)?
I personally chose a private accommodation, I had my own room and I shared the apartement with other people. Since the apartment was not situated in the city center, it was not that expensive, I also know you can find pretty good deals. Of course, the dormitory could be a valid option too and you could save up some money, so it’s worth checking it out.
about experiences
Did you use your stay to travel around the country/Europe? What are your best travel experiences? What would you not recommend?
I primarily focused on traveling around the city which I recommend to do and I often travelled to Malmo. It is easy and cheap to get there as there are trains from the central station in Copenhagen to the central station in Malmo and it’s only around 40 minutes of train. I also travelled to Berlin with my group project and overall I recommend to travel around by train or bus.
Language and culture: what cultural differences did you notice? How did you cope with the national language? Was it also the language of your studies? Do you feel that your language skills improved during your stay?
Everybody speaks English so we were communicating in English.
about experiences
Did you use Erasmus stay to travel around your country/Europe? What are your best travel experiences? What would you not recommend?

final rating
Why here? What makes this location special? Why would you send your friends to your country/city?
Copenhagen is a beautiful city with an interesting culture and the Aalborg university system is made up to get you ready for your future career but also allows you to enjoy some free time.

University of Copenhagen

When it comes to the University of Copenhagen, the first thing that comes to my mind is the student organizations. The University of Copenhagen is composed of buildings from different faculties scattered throughout the city, which is quite similar to the structure of our own university. In such a la...
