What made your university special? What were the facilities where you studied and the university equipment like?
Loughborough University is located in a small area, mostly taken up by the university campus. It boasts a wide range of sports buildings, and the opportunities to go with it, and overall provides a safe and easily accessible environment for learning.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about your "adoptive" university? What made it special? What were the premises where you studied and the university facilities like?
The classes were quite manageable, with longer essays at the end. While some of the classes were quite broad, trying to cover a wide array of theories in a short time, when treated as an introduction to media through an English lens, they did the job fine.
What is student life like at university?
The university has many activities for its students, and it is easy to access them on campus. I participated mostly in their sports activities, as they have free classes that can easily be booked through the My Lifestyle program, and these were a fun way to try new sports, and meet new people.
Did you study in English or in the language of the host country? What language requirements does the university have?
English was the required language, and all my courses were in English.

What was your impression of the city? How would you describe it? What is interesting to see here?
The city was small and peaceful, mostly made up of students. While it could be slightly boring to go around town, and it can be costly and time consuming to travel around the UK, trips could be made to Nottingham and Leicestershire quite easily, although London was a much longer commute.
Perhaps the nicest part of the city is its green spaces, as you can walk by the two horses that live on cross-hill lane not far from the uni, or take a longer trip up to Beacon Hill through the Outwoods.

In your experience, how far does the scholarship go? What percentage of your expenses did it cover? What is your opinion on prices in the country in general?
The scholarship was mostly taken up by the rent of the dormitory, and the prices in general are slightly higher than the Czech Republic, but there were some cheaper grocery stores such as Lidl or Aldi a 30 minute walk from the university. I would be aware of the prices for train tickets in the UK, however, if you plan on doing traveling, as they can be quite expensive.
Please advise your classmates on how to save money—Where to shop? What services can be used to save money?
Grocery shopping can be done at Aldi. It's a bit further from the University, but it tended to have the best prices and produce. Otherwise, take advantage of university events, and the MyLifestyle opportunities to be involved in the schools sports and use the facilities.

What type of accommodation did you choose? Would you recommend it to others? If not, what type of accommodation do you think is best based on your experience (dormitory, private apartment, private dormitory, shared room, etc.)?
I choose the dormitory, and found that it was clean and nice. It was a private room, with a shared bath and kitchen, but it was cleaned regularly, and maintained very well.

Did you use your stay to travel around the country/Europe? What are your best travel experiences? What would you not recommend?
I didn't travel much, but I did go into London and enjoyed seeing a play at the Globe and taking advantage of their cheaper standing tickets, and going to the Seven Sisters Cliffs just outside of London which were the highlight of my stay.
Language and culture: what cultural differences did you notice? How did you cope with the national language? Was it also the language of your studies? Do you feel that your language skills improved during your stay?
I am a native English speaker, so I can't offer much for this question, but I would recommend joining school events if you're looking to improve your English, to speak to the local students of the university.

Did you use Erasmus stay to travel around your country/Europe? What are your best travel experiences? What would you not recommend?
I can get lost easily, but I also like to go hiking and walking, so I would recommend downloading maps before you venture out. Also in the UK, it is normal for most stores to close fairly early on Sundays, so if you're arriving on that day, make sure you have everything you need for the first night.
Language and culture: what cultural differences did you notice? How did you cope with the national language? Was it also the language of your studies? Do you feel that your language skills improved during your stay?
They were very responsive. I didn't need much assistance, but every email I sent was answered quickly and with kindness.

I can't say exactly what the experience would be like, but I would suggest communicating with the university before hand, and seeing what accommodations can be made.

The quiet city and sports-centered school spirit and faculty make Loughborough a fun place to visit for a term.

there are so many nice outdoor spaces to explore around the university. You just have to step off of campus and you have access to some nice parks and open spaces. Just be careful not to get lost!
