about university

What made your university special? What were the facilities where you studied and the university equipment like?
Very welcoming, friendly environment, professionalism. The city is a jewel in the center of Portugal. My colleagues and professors were so dedicate and I really enjoyed learning with them.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about your "adoptive" university? What made it special? What were the premises where you studied and the university facilities like?
It is very similar, with presentations and a final essay. The syllabus were organized in an interdisciplinary way, so that each of us could contribute with her/his own expertise.
I would highly recommend Coimbra.
What is student life like at university?
There are many student associations, however due to COVID pandemic I was not able to join any. The university organizes excellent study and orientation days about that.
Did you study in English or in the language of the host country? What language requirements does the university have?
Portuguese and English

about accommodation

What type of accommodation did you choose? Would you recommend it to others? If not, what type of accommodation do you think is best based on your experience (dormitory, private apartment, private dormitory, shared room, etc.)?
My husband is Portuguese so I was able to live in the city h grew up and travel to Coimbra.

about experiences

Did you use Erasmus stay to travel around your country/Europe? What are your best travel experiences? What would you not recommend?
With regional trains and flixbus you can easily reach the most important cities in Portugal and Spain. Islands too are not so far and there are affordable flight tickets from Porto and Lisbon.
Language and culture: what cultural differences did you notice? How did you cope with the national language? Was it also the language of your studies? Do you feel that your language skills improved during your stay?
It is a very hospitable culture. Food and language are very nice. I enjoyed being immersed in the Portuguese way of life.

final rating

Why here? What makes this location special? Why would you send your friends to your country/city?
It is a very ancient university and as such you can feel the history, its tradition of being open to foreign students. I highly recommend it.

live-saving tips

If I went again, I would definitely remember to pack...
good sneakers as Coimbra is full of steps and little hallways.

Before leaving, I would like to know that...
What surprised me most was that...

The city itself is an open university.
