What made your university special? What were the facilities where you studied and the university equipment like?
Moderní univerzita na předměstí Říma, lékařská fakulta hned vedle rozsáhlé nové nemocnice. V ní pak k orientaci sloužící barevné pruhy, podél kterých se dá doputovat až na chtěné oddělení.
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about your "adoptive" university? What made it special? What were the premises where you studied and the university facilities like?
Čekal jsem, že má praxe bude nějak organizována, ale to se záhy ukázalo být jen troufalým snem. Neměl jsem nikde žádného mentora, školitele nebo průvodce. Skoro vždy to vypadalo tak, že jsem došel za sekretářkou, která se podívala do mailu, jestli mám opravdu přijít na dané oddělení a dál se o mě nikdo moc nestaral - s kým a kde budu, tak záleželo na mě, komu zaklepu na dveře.
What is student life like at university?
Je k dispozici kurz italštiny, který probíhá on-line, a sice celkem intenzivně (2x2 hodiny týdně plus domácí úkoly).
Did you study in English or in the language of the host country? What language requirements does the university have?
Studijní pobyt byl inzerován v angličtině, ale v té probíhá pouze teoretická výuka. Praxe (jelikož bez vedení) byly pochopitelně v italštině a většina lékařů mluvila anglicky jen málo.

Podmanivé, strhující, energické, živé, rušné, chaotické, nepřehledné, plné historických památek a příběhů

Stipendium stěží pokryje výdaje za bydlení. Všechno ostatní (doprava, jídlo, služby...) tedy nad rámec stipendia.

What type of accommodation did you choose? Would you recommend it to others? If not, what type of accommodation do you think is best based on your experience (dormitory, private apartment, private dormitory, shared room, etc.)?
Hlavní je nenaletět podvodníkům. Lehko se to řekne... u hledání bydlení si ale opravdu dejte pozor (např. placení zálohy před tím než máte možnost komunikovat s majitelem nebo agentura, jejíž nouzové linky nefungují - to je docela red flag). Kolej je, myslím, v tomto smyslu ideální.

Vlaky jsou prima.

Lidé, s nimiž jsem komunikoval, byli většinou nepříliš kovaní v AJ - a asi i proto byli často ke mně nepříjemní a přezíraví (od obchodů po nemocnici. Italštinu tedy určitě doporučuji, ale i bez její velké znalosti to šlo...
