Traineeship Opportunities at Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Headquarters in Brussels

Erasmus Student Network (ESN) is a non-profit international student organisation. Their mission is to represent international students, thus providing opportunities for cultural understanding and self-development under the principle of Students Helping Students.

 

Open Positions:

 

Youth Projects Trainee

The international headquarters in Brussels is looking for a Youth Projects trainee. We are seeking a candidate who can start early to mid-October 2026. The exact starting date is flexible and can be agreed upon based on availability. The traineeship is for 6-12 months, (relatively flexible). The successful candidate will work in the Projects team of ESN International and will be supervised by the Events and Projects Officer. The Projects team supports the Vice President for Development in fostering learning within ESN by organising and coordinating events and training opportunities. The team also designs and implements projects in the youth field, focusing on the learning and competence development of volunteers through non-formal activities and capacity-building events. The successful candidate will support the overall planning, implementation and reporting of projects and organisation of international events of ESN.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Support the planning, implementation, and reporting of ongoing projects and activities of the Project and Partnership Department. Currently, the team works on projects in the following fields:
  1. Active Citizenship and Youth Participation
  2. Youth Work recognition
  3. Health & Well-being of International Students and Youth Workers
  • Support the Project Officers with desk research and output creation.
  • Support the organisation of training events for the volunteers and members of ESN;
  • Help with the implementation of both internal and external projects related to training and development;
  • Manage the production of education manuals/toolkits and Training Session Outlines in line with ESN’s projects;
  • Support the development of non-formal learning processes, tools and opportunities in ESN;
  • Assist the Board and Secretariat with other tasks that might come up in the field of training and learning development;

 

Terms and conditions

  • Traineeship for a duration of 6 - 12 months (relatively flexible);
  • We are seeking a candidate who can start early to mid-October 2026. The exact starting date is flexible and can be agreed upon based on availability;
  • Must have an Erasmus+ traineeship grant. Please note that this is a mandatory requirement, as ESN does not have the means to cover any subsistence costs other than the ones mentioned in the bullet points below. Self-maintenance of the trainees is not an option, as ESN is a strong advocate for fair and paid traineeships and follows The European Quality Charter;
  • Accommodation allowance of 700 EUR per month is provided;
  • Travel allowance of 50 EUR per month is provided;
  • Reimbursement for flights to Belgium to start the traineeship and return to your home upon completion, which will be reimbursed according to ESN’s standard reimbursement procedures with a maximum of 275 EUR.
  • Public Liability and Personal Accident Insurance are covered.

 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Good written communication skills;
  • Flexibility with working outside of regular working hours from time to time;
  • Adaptability and willingness to work in an intercultural environment;
  • A structured and reliable way of working;
  • Experience with organising training events is a plus;
  • Experience in coordinating the content of training events is a plus;
  • Experience in a volunteer-led organisation is a plus;
  • Experience with non-formal education is a plus;
  • Experience with volunteering in ESN is a plus;
  • Experience with carrying out EU-funded projects and grants is a plus.

Multimedia and Visual Communication Trainee

The Multimedia and Visual Communication Trainee will support ESN’s communication activities with a strong focus on visual content creation and multimedia production. The role centres on developing engaging visual materials that help communicate ESN’s activities and promote mobility opportunities across Europe. You will contribute to the creation of visual and multimedia content used across ESN’s digital platforms and communication outputs. This includes supporting the visual identity of campaigns and producing creative materials that make ESN’s communication more engaging and accessible. This position is particularly suited to candidates interested in graphic design, visual storytelling, and multimedia communication within an international youth organisation.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Creation of branding packages for projects;
  • Graphic design for digital and print promotion;
  • Management and content production of ESN’s social media pages (TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Bluesky);
  • Working on the design of our projects and ESN publications, such as the Annual Report;
  • Working with photography and video.

Qualifications and requirements

  • Fluent in written and spoken English;
  • Background in communication, media, graphic design or similar;
  • Familiar with the concepts of Social Media and online marketing;
  • Good knowledge of Canva and Adobe software: Photoshop & InDesign are necessary, Illustrator is highly valued;
  • Highly proactive attitude - not afraid of proposing changes and taking ownership of delegated tasks;
  • Precise and organised way of working;
  • Proficient user of Google Workspace;
  • Capacity to work in a team as well as independently;
  • Comfortable working in a multicultural environment;
  • Knowledge of the Erasmus Student Network is a plus.

 

Highly valued

  • Knowledge of photography, video editing and/or animation tools;
  • Knowledge of HTML and/or CSS, experience in web design;
  • Fluency in other European languages.
